The Community Conversations Project
This project began as a partnership between the Iowa Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancies and the Iowa chapter of the American Association of University Women with the simple goal of increasing dialogue about this important issue. There has been a lot of talk about teen pregnancy, but not much attention has been given to unintended pregnancies among adult women. Currently, nearly half of all pregnancies among women 18-30 years old are unintended: a statistic that has remained stagnant for many years. Community Conversations are designed to make dialogue about the importance of preventing unintended pregnancies among adult women more Main-Street, mainstream -- so we can begin working together on addressing this issue.
So far, Community Conversations have been held in Clarion, Denison, Emmetsburg, Indianola, Cedar Rapids and Cedar Valley (Waterloo/Cedar Falls/Waverly). Planning for the next round of Conversations, which will likely take place in the fall of 2012, is now underway.
